The Sun, our nearest Star, can often be overlooked when discussing Astronomy.
This global "Star Party" has been organized by Pamela Shivak, to unite astronomy and outreach groups from all around the world to focus attention and telescopes on our very own star, the Sun.

Solar astronomy presents a unique set of opportunities for astronomical outreach for youth, schools and daytime visitors to recreational venues.   Solar science also offers a unique set of opportunities for observation of the physics that dominate the solar system, galaxy and whole universe.
