Reflector Telescope Configurations:
The following list includes most, but not all reflectors on which a DayStar Filter can be mounted. Telescopes of aperture larger than 6.75" may not currently be used full aperture, as no ERF glass exists above 6.75". Reduced aperture reflector applications must use an off-axis aperture reduction mask. This is a convenient application for the cell mounting of the ERF glass. Off-Axis, reduced aperture reflectors must use an off-axis WEDGE on the front of the DayStar to ensure the correct angle of entry into the DayStar filter.
Full aperture applications are possible on telescopes of aperture 6.75" or less. These applications require the use of negative barlow lens introduced BEFORE the DayStar filter. Pricing below does not include barlow lens costs. A telecentric barlow or negative lens is strongly recommended, as it will prevent vignetting and off-band transmission on the periphery of the image. Resolution will be increased and field of view reduced with full aperture applications. High resolution imaging offers a great deal of added detail not visible with full disk observations.
Telescope optical quality in narrow bandpass observing vs. full spectrum observing is not as critical. Spectral problems caused by singlet telescope designs do not affect filtered observations. Frequently, the least expensive telescope can offer competitive views to the most expensive telescope due to the lack of concerns for spectral correction considerations. In other words, a DayStar Filter can yield superior results on nearly any telescope.
